What is an everyday supercar? Well, there are supercars that you can buy that are technically road-legal—cars like the Bugatti Veyron or the Mclaren. But, even if you have the obscene amount of money necessary to purchase a car like this, you probably won’t take it on the roads. Imagine if you crashed it. That would be a million-dollar investment down the toilet. Then there’s the depreciation issue.
The more you drive these cars, the less valuable they become. That’s why typically the only time you’ll see a Veyron is at a track day. No one has the courage or stupidity to take a car like this out on the road. Instead, if you’re petrol head with the money, you’ll purchase an everyday supercar. They’re still expensive, high-performance vehicles. But unlike a Veyron, if you do total it, you haven’t just lost the value of a mansion. So, what cars are we talking about?
Best Everyday SuperCars
1. BMW i8:
Let’s start with a car that’s fast, environmentally friendly, and rather affordable. With a price tag of just under one hundred thousand, the BMW i8 is a dream come true for petrol head, tree huggers. Four words that have probably never been used in the same sentence. A supercar shouldn’t be one of the most fuel-efficient vehicles on the road. But the i8 manages it with the electric hybrid engine under the hood.
So just how fuel-efficient is this car. Well, driving it to the absolute limit, this vehicle will still do well over 130mpg. That’s incredible and is perhaps still the most eco-friendly sports car on the market.
It’s appealing too, with looks that stand out from the crowd. We love the butterfly doors, ripped straight from the 90’s Ferrari. The bodywork is slick and sliced in parts that make it look stunning. It seems as though it could be a transformer. A car of the future-ready to change into anything you could imagine. But of course, this car is already everything you could want.
With a top speed of 155mph and acceleration from zero to sixty in just four seconds, you’re going to have a lot of fun with this one out on the road. Don’t forget the price too. You’ll want to remember it because there’s not a car on this list that’s going to beat it.
2. Lamborghini Aventador:
Perhaps you’d prefer to own a Lamborghini. After all, if there’s any make that says supercar, it’s surely this one. The Aventador certainly looks the part with jagged edges build for speed and the lowest amount of wind resistance. It hugs the road as it cruises past you. But when it flies, it soars.
The Aventador will reach an incredible 217MPH and will easily leave the BMW in the dust. It won’t take long to do it either with a faster acceleration of just under three seconds. If you want one of the fastest everyday supercars on the market, this could be the one for you.
That said, you better be ready to open your checkbook. You’ll be paying at £260,000 for the privilege of driving this gorgeous machine. However, we’re not sure you’ll care about the cost once you get inside it. Does it matter that it costs as much as your first house when it feels this good? Buy one and find out just what we mean for yourself.
3. Ferrari F12 Berlinetta:
The F12berlinetta was named the best sports car in the world, and we can see why. Aesthetically, it’s inarguably captivating. It looks a little like a cross between a Porsche and a Lamborghini. We’re sure this is going to put some buyers off. This isn’t a Ferrari of old with a unique style and flair. If it were in a crowd of other sports cars, without the badge, you’d be hard to single it out. But it’s still a beautiful machine that’s certainly going to catch attention.
The cost isn’t as friendly as the BMW, but it is cheaper than the Lamborghini at £240,000. We think it’s worth every penny. It’s got a top speed of 211 MPH and acceleration at just over three seconds. Again, the Lamborghini will have it beat on the tracks. But what the Ferrari lacks in speed, it makes up for in comfort. When you get in the car, you’ll feel the seats hug your body. You’ll grip the steering wheel and become one with the car. It will be like nothing else you’ve experienced with a vehicle before, and you’ll love every moment of it. This is a car that wants to reach the height of its potential. If you let it, it will certainly take you there.
A big disadvantage of this car has got to be fuel efficiency. It’s going to do 19mpg. That makes it hard to recommend as an everyday vehicle. But somewhat shockingly, there aren’t many supercars that can beat that.
4. Audi R8:
Last onto the track is the Audi R8. It’s got the look of a supercar but the feel of an everyday saloon. It hangs low on the road and stretches out in all the right places. The spoiler fits in with the general aesthetic beautiful, and we love the overall design.
It’s also quite fast. While it won’t beat the Ferrari, it’ll come out on top with the BMW. You can get it to just under two hundred MPH pushing it to the very limit. That’s after taking you from zero to sixty in under four seconds.
Efficiency levels aren’t great. But there’s good news on that front. The 2016 model has a hybrid-electric engine. It will do 250 miles quite happily on one charge. That’s more like it, rivaling even the i8 for efficiency levels. All in all, this might be the best everyday supercar your money can buy. It’s got the looks, the speed, and the cost? Well, at 119,000, it comes in as the second cheapest car on this list. That’s not too bad, and with this car, you certainly get everything you pay for.
